    Description

    Vintage BRAUN KMM-1 120 volt coffee grinder was designed by Reinhold Weiss in 1965. It is 7 1/2" tall x 5 3/4" long x 3 1/4" wide (19 x 14.6 x 8.2 cm).
The original is in the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. https://www.moma.org/collection/works/4535
The Braun KMM-1 coffee grinder was designed in 1965 by Reinhold Weiss under the leadership of Braun design director Dieter Rams, who famously said, "Good design is as little design as possible. Less, but better - because it concentrates on the essential aspects, and the products are not burdened with non-essentials. Back to purity, back to simplicity.” It is a
prime example of the Bauhaus-inspired minimalist modernist design of the era.
The KMM-1 was Braun's first coffee grinder and its launch marked a significant moment of domestic modernization. The stone mill mechanism marked the end of the long-winded manual process of grinding the beans by hand. The formal language of the device represents what it does: the relatively soft shape of the cylinder is where the beans go, and after being processed, they fall into the angular-shaped hopper. The result: a stunningly beautiful coffee grinder. The ground coffee falls into the lidded hopper that slides in and out. The hopper container is aligned on the top and bottom to slide back and forth. You must carefully align the container before inserting it because it can get stuck if not exactly positioned. It snaps into place
This grinder is in great shape, with some fogging on the plastic and some hairline cracks and scratches on the hopper, but not chips or cracks in the body. has been tested, works great.
