Auxiliaries
The range of auxiliary products has been formulated to modify the characteristics of a color. Our selection can be divided between mediums which change the transparency or the shine of a color, or to reproduce the natural effect of chipped off paint, or employed to fix decals on the model, and varnishes, both acrylic and polyurethane, which unify the finish of the models or figures and provide a protection and additional resistance to manipulation. Our airbrush mediums are used as much to dilute a color as to delay the drying of paint in the airbrush and the different cleaners are employed to assure the best maintenance to the working tools of the modeler, be it brushes or airbrushes.
Varnish
Waterbased acrylic varnish with a new, quick drying formula, and an acrylic resin of extraordinary hardness and permanence. Protects painted models from dust and scratches, dirt and humidity.
Chipping Medium
Chipping Medium is a waterbased medium to create flaked paint, scratches, and rust chips. Chipping Medium can be applied with airbrush or brush to create chipping effects with waterbased acrylic colors.
Liquid Mask
Liquid Mask is used to reserve areas which are to remain unpainted, especially in airbrush techniques, but also with watercolors and temperas. The product forms a protective film on the area which the artists does not want to paint. Once the work is dry, liquid mask is rubbed off with an eraser or piece of cloth, revealing the unpainted area.
Airbrush Thinner
Airbrush Thinner is used to extend the colors, increase fluidity and delay their drying time. It does not alter the properties of the colors. We recommend the addition of a few drops of Thinner to the colors while airbrushing.
Airbrush Flow Improver
Airbrush Flow Improver is a medium to improve the flow and delay the drying of paint on the needle while airbrushing. It is recommended to add 1-2 drops of Flow Improver to 10 drops of paint in the cup of the airbrush.
Decal Softener
Decal Softener is a medium which protects the decal and smoothes its edges so that they blend with the surface of the model. Decal Softener also softens the decal to adapt it to surface details such as recessed lines, raised edges, screws or bolts.
Decal Fix
Decal Fix cleans and prepares the model surface before placing decals and wet transfers, improves adherence of the decal, and prevents formation of air bubbles without need for a previous coat of varnish.
Model Air
Matt acrylic colors, water-based and especially formulated for airbrushing. The Model Air color range contains the most complete selection of the military colors used in recent history, including the colors of WWI, WWII and up to the present. Each color is based on extensive research by our experts of the existing and previous military references so as to offer the modeler the highest possible historical accuracy.
Model Air is used directly or diluted with Vallejo Airbrush Thinner or Flow Improver. It is recommended to first prime the surface, and then apply Model Air in several layers. The colors dry very rapidly and form a homogenous paint film of extraordinary resistance while preserving even the smallest detail of the model. For airbrushing these colors, the compressor air pressure is recommended at 15 – 20 PSI or 0.5 to 1 kg. Model Air can of course also be applied with a brush. For correct airbrush maintenance we recommend using the Vallejo Airbrush Cleaner.
